Cat life has been a bit crazy this month, Oliver got neutered last week, and I had to save Remi’s life a couple of days before that.
I was getting ready for work, running a little late. The kittens were being their normal rambunctious selves, running around and chasing each other.
I saw Remi running really fast with the feather toy attached to a stick with fishing wire, she ran into the bedroom, I thought nothing of it.
It was about 20 minutes later when I was heading out, I almost just went out the door, but my gut stopped me.
Remi was laying in the den next to the office chair. She didn’t move. I quickly realized the wire from the toy was wrapped around her neck, which was wrapped around the chairs rolling wheels.
She had been stuck there for over 20 minutes, twisting and rolling around, making the wire tighter around her neck. By the time I got to her, she was gasping for air, limp and exhausted.
I grabbed the scissors, I could barely get my finger under the wire, it was so tight! But, I was finally able to free her.
She ran off and went under the sofa, making a choking, heavy breathing sound. Grateful that she was alive, I still didn’t know if she had brain damage from lack of oxygen, or throat/neck injury.
I checked her eyes for dilated pupils or anything unusual, she looked okay.
After an hour or so, she finally came out and let me pet her, very good. But she wasn’t purring.
It took a couple hours before she wanted to get some love, and she started purring!
All is fine, thank GOODNESS!!!
I was pretty shook up all day just thinking about what if I didn’t make sure she wasn’t just sleeping next to that chair before I went to work? She clearly would have died.😔
Oliver is doing well, but we have them separated while he is recovering and that is hard, they love each other so much. ❤ He gets his cone off on Sunday, he can’t wait!
Meanwhile, he is getting extra love and treats, and he is even enjoying a new “cat app” on the iPad, he loves it!😂

Poor little one and you!

What a trauma for you and Remi! Thank goodness you listened to your gut and didn’t leave for work without checking first. You saved her! A purr-fectly happy ending. 😻

So glad to hear it. So many things are dangerous, or could be, and we don’t even know it. My daughter bought me gorgeous tulips but i had to put them in a room and close the door, since they are poisonous to cats. All my plants are locked in a room. Sigh. They used to fill my kitchen, etc., but looked them all up and got rid of a bunch of them and kept the others in a closed room. Have to check all of them.

Oh yes, so many plants, we have relocated a few houseplants since the kittens arrival, better safe than sorry! 😉

Nigel loves bags, the fear of him choking in a strap prompted us to cut any strap of a plastic or coth bag

Smart, I’ve had that happen with another cat, so scary! I will never have another toy with fishing wire for sure, actually, they are pretty happy with a ball of paper to chase around!😂

I’m so glad that both your cats are okay, Tiffany. That must have been scary for all involved. It’s also more proof that our intuition rarely fails us, if at all. ❤️

Oh no, that’s so scary but I am so glad that she is doing ok!
We had a kitty who crawled into a shopping bag and got her head caught in the handles, she was running around the house trying to get free but wouldn’t stop long enough for us to catch her to help. Finally we got her free and now we clip all the handles to the bags before we let them crawl in to them.
I love the painting! Gina and I have had cats in our home since two days after we moved in over thirty years ago, we can’t even imagine a home without them. Right now we have two but we have had as many as four.
I tend to be distrustful of people who don’t like cats, especially if they say that cats tend to not like them.

Oh, yes, I agree! Same, I’ve had hundreds of cats in my life, only short periods without them, and those were dark days, life is so much better with kitties! Thanks Scott!😺 ❤

What an upsetting experience. It is your sensitivity as an artist and love of animals that made you get that feeling. What a horrible experience, Tiffany. Love the artwork but I also have to tell you, your dialog about what happened was so real written I found myself reading it out loud to my husband. I could not believe how awful it was and reading the comments was also alarming. You are a really good story teller. So talented. The photograph with the precious kitty in what Scott calls, “The Hat of Shame,” was so precious. What a blessing it ended the way it did and all was well. What precious babies. Big hugs and love, Joni
