Standing in Line

16″ x 20″ Acrylic and alcohol ink on canvas

There’s a lot more people “Standing in Line” these days, waiting to get into a store, waiting for help, waiting to get back to some kind of normal. May God grant us the patience and strength until we get there.

You will usually find my paintings heavy with paint and texture, not here. It’s actually very light with just acrylic and alcohol ink. I’ve only recently started playing with alcohol inks and they are awesome to experiment with!

I think at some point, someone told me that you should NEVER see unpainted canvas on a painting. Now, I don’t think that really matters, but maybe that is why I usually apply paint heavier than some others?

Have a great week everyone!

Success! You're on the list.

So I guess that person never saw the ridiculous piece of “art” called blank canvas

Lol! I guess not, I don’t even remember who it was, but it stuck in some way, which somehow became part of my style, but I love stepping out of the box!

Art rules are meant to be broken, opinions with a grain of considered salt….I think the canvas adds a bit of interesting texture! Lovely.

They look like they are melting into the bloody sidewalks. Taking the standing in line out of the equation, the painting is excellent.

Thank you, Tim! Yes, there is an element of dripping or melting, which might have to do with sweltering humid heat, all things I hate along with standing in a long line!

I went and saw an exhibition by veteran NZ artist Philippa Blair (https://www.philippablair.com/) recently, and I think just about every one of her paintings had some blank canvas in it somewhere.

I should clarify: It was probably gessoed, but it didn’t look like it had anything else on it.

Ooh, thanks for turning me onto Philippa Blair, I really love her style and her color palette is fantastic! I see what you mean about white space in most of her work, it is quite appealing!
