Disconnected

My Dad died 30 years ago today. I remember it like yesterday.

He had heart problems all his adult life, it would get out of rhythm, IHSS is what they called it then. The doctors would stop and restart his heart and it usually worked. But that last time it didn’t. He was in the hospital for several days, I went to see him on July 5th, I brought him McDonalds, we talked about the fireworks. That was our last conversation.

July 7th my mom called me at 2 in the morning and said to pick up my brother and get to the hospital. He was already gone but the machines were keeping him alive, my mom and I held his hands while he was disconnected. Our world was never the same.

Tiffany, thank you for sharing such a deeply personal memory. I was especially touched by your last visit together at the McDonald’s, talking about the fireworks, never imagining it would be your final conversation. Those ordinary moments often become our most treasured memories. Thirty years may have passed, but love doesn’t keep a calendar🤗🤗🤗
