I just love putting things together that don’t typically go together. Clothes, colors, ingredients, people, you get it. This also includes art mediums.
A very successful artist once told me that you can NEVER apply acrylic over oil paints; naturally, I’ve been doing it ever since! Granted, they don’t blend together, but I like the contrast, the resistance; it says something.
In this painting, I’ve layered acrylic, watercolor, gouache, and oil pastels. I think they all play nicely together!😊
Agreed, all those mediums together show texture.
I like it Tiffany!
I was told by an artist that we can’t paint acrylic over oils.
So to experiment I painted acrylic over 2 or 3 oils paintings. Well, it worked and I was able to create a new painting in acrylics.

I’ve heard the same from art teachers, and have always enjoyed rebelling, myself in this way. I also like to mix things that don’t mix. Niice! This is an exploration on the resistance that is so important right now.

The reason is chemistry. The acrylic might peel off in time. It’s like salad dressing. You have to shake the bottle. BUT it sure makes a cool effect here!
