Alcohol Graffiti

18” x 18” mixed media on canvas

I’ve had this mixed media painting hanging in our hallway for a while. Here is my post from June 2019 describing how I intertwined multiple paintings together to create “It’s A Mix”. It was cool, but not very exciting, it didn’t catch your eye.

So, looking for a change, I decided to introduce some bright colors by randomly splashing some alcohol inks around. The inks flow and blend when you spray your (varnished) surface with isopropanol alcohol, it’s a really fun and hypnotic process, just make sure to play in a well-ventilated room! 😉

It certainly pops now! I renamed it “Alcohol Graffiti” because it looks like spray paint in some parts. I’m shamefully reminded of my juvinille delinquent period as a graffiti tagger when I was hanging out with the So Cal skater punks in the early 80’s, yeah, that’s a whole nuther story……😎

Those alcohol inks have a great intensity. You’ve trebled the tonal range on the old painting. As an old tutor said to me you dont just play the middle keys on the piano – use the full range.

The vibrant colors really pop, and the underlying structure draws ones eye to look within ~ very nicely done, Tiffany 😎🎨 What’s this about ‘skater punks’?
