Alexandrite

9″ x 12″ Mixed media on paper

I rarely wear my engagement ring, I’m usually elbow deep in paint, dirt, or spices, I don’t want to mess it up! But I have been wearing it lately, and I believe that is where my inspiration came from when I created this, so I’m calling it “Alexandrite”.

I have never been considered “traditional” so when it came to chosing my engagement ring, I wanted something other than a diamond. I chose an alexandrite gemstone.

If you are not familiar, Alexandrite is a rare variety of chrysoberyl, well-known for the fact that it’s a pleochroic stone, which means that it appears as a different color depending on its setting. In daylight, alexandrite appears greenish-blue to dark yellow-green, but in incandescent or candlelight, it looks pink to red.

Alexandrite is said to encourage romance. It is also said that through the stone, joy enters the lives of people with too much self-discipline. The stone reminds us of our purpose in life and our origin. It gives hope to those who are in despair about their lives. It brings strength and constantly reminds them of the light. With its changing color, it is a reminder that life is not only what it seems to be! 🥰💙💜❤💗🌈

Loving the energy in the colour here.

We never did engagement rings (I’m that cheap!). We decided on the wedding just 3 weeks before so there didn’t seem much point in an engagement.

We tend not even to wear wedding rings these days, although Mrs B sometimes wears a ring on that finger because, even aged sixty, she will sometimes have guys hit on her, and a ring makes them think twice. Spooky, huh?

Uh, no. She doesn’t see it that way at all. She wants to be left alone.

Magnetic. I have a sapphire ring that changes colors based on climate. I am quite fond of it as well, as it has a butterfly etched in the silver underneath. Lovely mixed media, Tiffany.
