I’ve been wanting to do an all black and white collage for a while. I didn’t have any preconceived ideas, just black and white. As I started flipping through magazines and digging through my collection of collage clippings, it all came together.
Snippets of graffiti found in New York City, butterflies, angels, pinup girls, and, of course, imagination. Not just any black and white image made “The Cut”. Each image was thoughtfully selected, and composed to express what I was feeling at the moment.
Sick of confinement. Wanting to escape. Frustration. Angst. These are not unusual feelings for anyone these days.
The bottom line is we have to LIVE. We have to keep going, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I use visual art as an outlet to express my feelings, but for you, it might be writing, or exercise, singing, or dance. Whatever you love doing, don’t stop! Use your creative energy for positive growth, for relaxation, for therapy, just use it!
It cuts nicely. Reminds me when I use to do collage type setups to photograph.

Thanks, Tim! I know what you mean, I love setting up for a shoot! I used to do a lot of food photography for my old blog, they often went way past the actual food and got very abstract, go figure! 😉🤣

I love this. And I love the idea of having a collection of collage clips. How do you know what to keep? Do you collect THEN get ideas of how to link them together? Or do you get ideas and THEN collect?

Ha! I would love to respond that I have all my clippings organized by color and theme, animals, letters, quotes, faces, cities, etc, but I don’t, really. I have lots of envelopes with pressed flowers and leaves, and others filled with random clippings. I flip through magazines and tear out pages of things I like, colors and things, it just depends on what I am working on!

Thanks so much, Phil! It’s what we have to do, and why wouldn’t we want to?! ☺

The message is clear, say yes to life and living!! Find what makes our each own “cut” and go for it. I love this one Tiffany ❤ When I was in the hospital a lot, ten years ago now, making collages and vision boards was how I kept myself busy and drove my spirits up! We can’t stop or wait for someone to live life for us….the art is in the living 💃❤😁✨🙌

YES! Your perception is right on, Maria! I really believe everyone can benefit from art therapy, especially now. There are so many ways to express, I hope to encourage others to explore, even if just for fun! 🥰💕🤗

You definitely do just that my love. Your paintings often get me to pull mine out and create something spontaneously, intuitively and creatively ❤❤❤🤗

initially I thrived on lock down, when I was on paid leave back in March but now…With no place to escape…Can’t eat in restaurant’s, most museums aren’t open…My emotional state is heightened 😥

You are not alone in that sentiment Matt. There are so many restrictions, and they are always changing, things we are not accustomed to dealing with. Our privileged society, compared to others. I think we are going to deal with even more change……

“Whatever you love doing, don’t stop!” – yes! Plus really enjoyed reading about your process, choosing purposely to fit your expressiveness, Tiffany! And love the side by side juxtaposition of the pin up girl and what looks like to me, a grumpy nor’easter lol! 😊

Ha! Thanks, Adan! I couldn’t resist including that grumpy guy, whoever he is, I think we all feel like him sometimes! 😉

I can totally relate to the confinement and wanting to escape Tiffany.
Staying in from covid is a real drag, thank goodness for our ability to create art.
I don’t know about you but art is my escape.
I really like your collage it looks great!
Enjoy the day!

I might have to try a black-and-white collage for my art journaling. Or a monochromatic page. That would be interesting, for sure. Thanks for the inspiration.
