Interview With Tiffany Arp Daleo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Arp Daleo.

Tiffany, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been painting and creating art for as long as I can remember. I was encouraged to explore nature and crafts by my mother and grandmother who instilled in me a passion for art. I took art classes and workshops and experimented with many forms of creativity but it wasn’t until I broke my toe in 2018 that I decided to pursue my art as a career. While I was healing, I painted prolifically and I haven’t stopped since!

All of a sudden, I had hundreds of abstract paintings that were actually good, and with little storage, I decided to try and sell them. My first art show was in December 2018 and it was received quite well. Since then, I have established several regular clients, gotten into gallery exhibitions and lots of group art shows. It’s hard work and not many artists succeed in the business, but for the first time in my life, I feel like I’m doing what I am supposed to be doing, and it feels great!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think the biggest challenge for most artists is self-doubt. When I was younger I doubted everything I did, I rarely finished paintings. Finally, something clicked in my head and I stopped questioning my talent, things really changed after that. I believe that to be a successful artist you have to stay focused, committed, and organized, and having support from family and friends is also really important. I am very fortunate to have a great support group around me!

We’d love to hear more about your art.
Though my artwork is primarily abstract and mixed media, I am constantly exploring and experimenting with new products and techniques. I love to incorporate nature in my work and often use pressed flowers and leaves in my creations. I also love graffiti street art and spray paint might be my favorite medium, so I’d say I have a pretty eclectic style, you never know what I will fall in love with next!

Music also has a great influence on my artwork. I love a variety of music genres, from punk to classical, rock, folk and alternative. I always have music playing when I paint, it often dictates the direction and the energy of the work. You will also notice the titles of my paintings often correlate with songs or albums.

My work is unique because I paint intuitively, meaning when I sit down with a blank canvas, I have no idea what will happen. I start with an open mind, an open soul, and I trust the energy that guides me. My goal isn’t to sell as many paintings as I can, rather, I want people to purchase my work because a particular piece speaks to them, I want them to say “WOW!” and for it to be something they love and treasure forever.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I didn’t have the happiest childhood, in fact, it was a very difficult time for me. We lived in a rural part of Northern San Diego without other kids to play with so I spent much of my time alone. I was fortunate to have a horse and lots of dogs and cats so I spent a lot of time hiking and exploring nature. I still love animals and being outdoors and I try to reflect that in my work!
