Fake Empire

16” x 20” Mixed media collage on canvas

I’m still floating on air after seeing my favorite band in concert the other night, that’s when this mixed media collage came together.

If you’ve followed me for any amount of time you know I love The National, I see them every chance I get. They played at Cal Coast Open Air Amphitheater on the campus of San Diego State University, which happens to be one of my favorite venues for a concert.

The band just released two new albums so they played a lot of new songs, but they still gave us some of the classic older ones, a good mix.

If you’re interested, check out this video I took, one of my favorite songs “Don’t Swallow the Cap” it turned out pretty clear!

Stay inspired my friends! 🎵🎶💕

  1. I don’t know what I can see in this, it’s kind of shrouded and not open to me. There’s a lot of form and colour that I seems to be saying something but I’m not sure what. Lovely colours and forms 🙂

  2. Nah! Not mysterious at all. It is obviously a parrot perched on a mini waste basket behind a raspberry next to the star-and-crescent-moon-eyed owl reading a broadsheet newspaper next to a red masked helmet all on top of a very big fish on a rainbow wave. Like duh, hello! 😉🤣

  3. I keep coming back to look at this piece. It’s quite striking. I know all too well that great post concert vibe. Love to see you turned it into some creative inspiration. I also love the National. “I Need My Girl” is awesome… they also do a great cover of “Morning Dew.” Cheers and thanks for this wonderful art.
