My First Sketchbook!

I know it might be hard to believe, an artist that has never worked in a sketchbook?? It’s true. I’ve been creating something, somewhere every single day for many years, but never in a notebook/jounal. And now because my storage space is maxed out, (like seriously) I am forced to work on smaller surfaces, or on limited larger ones.

Inspired by some of my favorite artist bloggers, Judith at Artistcoveries, Claudiamcgillart, and dareboldly, I decided to take the plunge and buy my first book! I chose the 7″ x 10″ size which will be easy to take with me on vacations or just a day at the park!

I have no rules, it will be filled with whatever I feel like, mixed media, watercolor, notes and poems, hopefully some pen/pencil sketching too.

I may or may not share these pages with you, but know that you are all inspiring me in your ways, and I appreciate each and all of my friends here in this community!🙏🥰🎨✌

  1. It’s very good that you have done that, sketchbooks are not just a record but away to research, investigate and learn. Being free and random is what sketch books are for, so that when you turn to a serious work, you’ve already thought out most of the painting. Good work!

  2. Yea!!! How fun Tiffany. I love the first sketch. I think you will love having your sketch book. I take a small pad and pencil with me to have something to write in when something inspires me. Hugs and love ❤️ Joni

  3. How fun!! You inspired me to begin to draw in my sketchbooks again. And stop being afraid to ruin them. Now you have got your first sketchbook! I hope you will share (some of) what you draw. Excited!

  4. Love the first one!! Enjoy!!! (You’ve made me think about using one again, altho I always end up hiding behind them, using them as excuses for not doing “real” work. Like: “I did it here, it’s done, why do it larger on a canvas?” Silly excuses all. 🤷🏻‍♀️) Thank you for sharing this and for the inspiration!!!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏

    1. Thanks, Robin!!! I can see what you mean about hiding behind the sketchbook, I hope to continue my work on canvas too, I have some large canvases I need to work on, so it will be fun to open up and go large after working small! 😊

  5. What type of paper? Is it a mixed-media journal? If not, remember that some media might not work very well… but that’s part of the fun sometimes. I’m really glad you got a sketchbook, and yes, they are so handy to carry around. It’s especially nice to have a small sketchbook with me when I go to appointments with my husband at his retinologist. It’s a nice way to pass the time. Sometimes I doodle, sometimes I draw, and sometimes I even take colored pencils along, or my gansai and a waterbrush. It’s portable art. And thanks so much for mentioning my blog!
