Breakthrough

16″ x 20″ Acrylic on canvas

I think the block is over. I hope.

Thank you to all my friends out there for providing me support, advice and tips that helped me get past my inability to complete a painting! I realize that block are a normal part of being an artist, pretty much everyone goes through phases of creative blocks.

For me, it wasn’t that I couldn’t get started, but I just couldn’t feel what was needed to finish a painting. So I kept starting them, over and over. I’m embarrassed to tell you how many! Lol!

Eventually, I stayed away from the studio for a few days. I allowed myself to take a break. I played with my wood burning tool, took longs walks, listened to music, watched movies, and cleaned house. I also submitted paintings and inquired about possible gallery and group shows. There is never enough time in the day to get all my to-do’s done, even when I wasn’t spending 4-6 hours in the studio!

“Breakthrough” is the first painting I deemed “complete” in several weeks. It is hard to tell, but I took another smaller canvas filled with paint and pressed it onto this canvas a couple of times in different places. It was cool but it wasn’t finished until I finally added the red arch.

And now I have to get back to naming, photographing, documenting, editing and sharing all these new paintings! Wishing you all a creative and fun filled week!
