The Sound of Color

11″ x 14″ Mixed media on canvas board

“The Sound of Color” is a vibrant mixed media painting on canvas board created with watercolor and alcohol inks. I’ve been on a alcohol ink binge lately, playing with all the new shades, these things are very exciting to me!!

If you think that it’s just a bunch of splashed ink, anyone can do that, well, it’s a little more complicated. You need to have a knack for color blending, color placement, and balance, and it takes some practice using alcohol, and other mediums to get the optimum effect. I’m not an expert, but I have spent many hours playing and experimenting including many trials and errors!

I’ve added this painting to my Fine Art America site. I love playing with the different frame and matting options on their site, it’s amazing how different paintings look with various frames and matting options!

  1. I love the colour in this one. I think that anyone who says that anyone can do it, obviously hasn’t tried it. They are probably the same people who say “Oh I can’t Draw” because they can’t draw a masterpiece the first time they sit down. Sorry, in a very negative mood today. Overcast and going to rain for two whole days!

    1. Agreed. Sorry for your dismal weather, whereas we haven’t seen rain since February and I would dance and celebrate if it would!! But I do understand how overcast and dark can get depressing, in fact, I just bought some good bright light bulbs for my studio!
