Here’s a new collage I’ve been putting together, I think it’s done. Watercolor back ground, clippings from magazines, and finished with some acrylic here and there. The beautiful woman is actually a painting by French artist William-Adolphe Bouguereau, this one is called L’Etoile Perdue, which translates to The Lost Pleiad.
There is a back story, of course, the Pleiades is sometimes called the Seven Sisters. Why? In Greek mythology, the Pleiads were the seven daughters of Atlas, a Titan who held up the sky, and the oceanid Pleione, protectress of sailing. The story relates to the journey of the seven sisters that make up the star cluster known as the Pleiades, in the constellation Taurus. So, the Seven Sisters are running away from the Jampijinpa man, they travel across the land, and then from a steep hill they launch themselves into the sky in an attempt to escape.
My collage version of the story is the last sister to jump from the steep hill hesitated and her sisters turned to butterfly angels before her, she finally ascends and joins them onto the next chapter.
Of course, you can’t say “Take Me With U”, without thinking about Prince’s song, one of my favorites!
