Survival

16″ x 20″ Mixed media on canvas

Sometimes you have to reinvent yourself in order to survive.

This was one of the paintings I started a few weeks ago but got stuck on, I couldn’t finish it. I really liked parts of it, there’s some personal symbolic stuff going on, so I knew I needed to complete it.

The cut up newsprint flower idea came to me in a dream. It took me a few days to obtain a newspaper, (who reads the paper anymore?) and as soon as I saw it, I knew it was done!

I think the painting symbolizes strength through perseverance despite the obstacles that might be in the way. It reminds me of a flower that grows up and breaks through concrete. We must stay focused on our goals, even if our only goal is to survive.

First thing that struck me was the newspaper flower cut-out! Brilliant! Love the intense colors around it, as if the flower’s already leant it’s essence to the world around it, coloring it with richness, taking & leaving the imprint of the world on itself to take back into the ground, re-nourish, and replenish again next time! Flowers do that, even in old hardened lava (as per pictures I’ve seen, lol) – they keep coming back 😊

“We must stay focused on our goals, even if our only goal is to survive.” – if survival’s at stake, it is the only goal. Even if the only thing surviving is our integrity and sense of self ❤️

Love your perseverance & creativity, Tiffany!
